After visiting its magnificent UNESCO-listed monastery and enjoying a light lunch, take to two wheels along quiet country roads to the Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture, Spain’s premier wine museum. End the afternoon in Haro, the historic capital of La Rioja Alta, and settle into your hotel in the old town center.
On Day 2, cycle through the rolling vineyards of Rioja Alavesa, passing ancient stone dolmens and avant-garde winery architecture. Stop for coffee beneath the hilltop castle in San Vicente de la Sonsierra before continuing to Laguardia, a medieval walled village founded by the King of Navarre. Enjoy a traditional lunch within Laguardia’s historic walls, then ride on to Elciego to tour and taste at the iconic Marqués de Riscal wine estate.

Stop along the route to discover traditional Basque breadmaking and sample artisanal Idiazabal sheep’s milk cheese before ending the ride in Beasain, just steps from the historic Igartza Palace complex.
Day 4: Tolosa, Traditional Cider Houses & San Sebastián
Cycle through rolling emerald hills toward the Atlantic coast, following the Oria River through historic trade towns like Tolosa. Known for its rich history as a gateway between Navarre and the Bay of Biscay, Tolosa offers a perfect backdrop for a mid-ride stop. As you near the sea, experience traditional Basque cider house culture, sampling crisp, freshly poured cider straight from the barrel. Conclude the day’s journey at your waterfront hotel overlooking the iconic bay of San Sebastián.
Day 5: Hondarribia, Mt. Jaizkibel & San Sebastián City Tour
Choose between a relaxing rest day exploring San Sebastián at your own pace or a scenic ride to Hondarribia—a colorful, medieval coastal village situated directly on the border with France. Cyclists looking for a challenge can tackle the climb back over Mount Jaizkibel (545m), a famous peak featured in professional cycling races that offers sweeping Atlantic views. In the afternoon, return to San Sebastián for a guided walking tour through its historic old town and vibrant pintxos districts.
