Days 1–2: Stein am Rhein, Rhine Falls, Hermann Hesse & Reichenau Island
Transfer via private van to Stein am Rhein, a walled medieval village famous for its frescoed facades. After settling in, visit Rhine Falls—Europe’s largest waterfall—and board a boat to the towering central monolith for an up-close perspective. Embark on a gentle warm-up ride along the pristine upper Rhine River, crossing a 500-year-old covered wooden bridge into Germany. Pedal past sunflower fields, take a refreshing dip in the river, and gather for a sunset drink at the town’s overlooking castle fortress. On Day 2, ride flat lakeside paths across the border into Hemmenhofen to explore the former homes and museums of writer Hermann Hesse and painter Otto Dix. Continue through cherry orchards and fishing villages along the Untersee to the UNESCO-listed island of Reichenau, exploring its 8th-century monastic churches and protected wetlands. Take a scenic ferry across to the castle-topped town of Meersburg and tour Altes Schloss—Germany’s oldest inhabited fortress.
