Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate
Every mile of your journey is supported by our expert, multi-lingual guides riding alongside the group to offer personal support, local insights, and technical assistance. We also provide GPS units pre-loaded with your daily routes, along with detailed route notes. Whether you’re climbing through majestic mountains, winding through quiet valleys, or navigating the narrow streets of historic towns, our dedicated van support is always nearby to transport luggage or provide a lift whenever you’re ready for a break.
Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Matera
We meet in Matera early morning to start our ride across open wheat fields and into the trulli-laden countryside. The route begins overlooking Matera’s stunning gorge, following quiet, stone-fenced paths. After the ride, we visit Italy’s largest underground grottoes before transferring to the UNESCO site of Alberobello. Lodging: Trullidea (Stay in your very own private Trullo).
Day 2: Trulli Country Loop A loop ride through rural landscapes filled with poppies, wildflowers, and fairytale views. We pass through dairy and wheat farms, visiting a local olive oil producer who still uses a traditional stone press and an ancient underground mill. Highlights: Olive oil tasting and mozzarella-making tour. Lodging: Trullidea (Alberobello).

Day 3: Ostuni & The Trajan Way Ride to the blue-green waters of the Adriatic Sea, then wind through ancient olive groves featuring trees up to 2,000 years old. We finish in the whitewashed hilltop city of Ostuni. Highlight: Discovering the Roman “Trajan Way” en route. Lodging: Hotel La Terra **** (A converted palace in Ostuni’s historic center).
Day 4: To the Baroque Jewel of Lecce Today’s journey takes us through the medieval Jewish district of Oria as we head toward the Baroque masterpiece of Lecce. Lodging: Hotel Patria Palace ***** (An 18th-century aristocratic mansion).
Day 5: The Splendors of Lecce A rest day from the saddle or a short optional ride. Enjoy a private city tour of Lecce, exploring its ornate golden-hued architecture and vibrant squares. Lodging: Hotel Patria Palace *****.

Day 6: Otranto & Sea Grottoes (32 or 45 miles) A coastal ride along a breathtaking secluded ridge that falls into surreal blue-green grottoes. Visit the medieval Otranto Castle and its famous Basilica. Highlight: A swim or mud bath in a hidden coastal grotto. Lodging: Hotel Mediterraneo **** (Seaside hotel with Adriatic views).
Day 7: The Island Town of Gallipoli (32 or 45 miles) Cycle around Italy’s “heel,” moving from the Adriatic to the Ionian Sea. We finish in the timeless island-town of Gallipoli, entering through its ancient bridge. Lodging: Hotel El Pescatore **** (Renovated hotel in Gallipoli).
